Derek Meyers

Derek Meyers became familiar with Sharing Our Roots as he worked with a number of our farmers and gardeners to provide them better market access and resources through his role as the director of Riverwalk Market Fair. Food access work soon became his main priority, especially as federal programs to address food insecurity began to be cut.

Our mission to build community through a connection to the land in an effort to heal both people and the planet was a coalescence of values that felt pure to Derek. The more he learned, the more compelling Sharing Our Roots became.

Through his roles at Imminent Brewing and Just Food Co-op, Derek worked hard to foster openness, inclusivity, understanding, and connection in his community. His professional life has focused on making folks, of all walks of life, feel welcome.

Derek looks forward to continuing and building upon the great work the organization and its staff have done and continue to do each day. He is ready to put his full self towards this endeavor because it embodies who he is and how he wants to be in the world. He looks forward to learning, growing and thriving alongside the crops, the land, and the people of Sharing Our Roots.
