Nourishment & Belonging Cultivated at Moffado Farm
Moffat Otwere operates Moffado farm, located at Sharing Our Roots. His organic mixed vegetable production is a vibrant business that offers nutrient-dense and delicious produce— such as collards, beets, cabbage, okra, eggplant, cilantro, and green beans! At its core, Moffado Farm is committed to meeting the needs of the local community and dedicated to learning how to improve each season.
Moffat grew up farming in the Kisii region of Kenya since he was 7 years old and carries with him generations of agriculture knowledge. By joining Sharing Our Roots, he got access to farm equipment, irrigation, leadership, and support for his business to flourish. As food producer, he is passionate about ensuring his local community not only has access to healthy food, but also culturally-meaningful food. Moffat hopes to inspire more members of his community to join him; he sees organic farming as fundamental to the health of our bodies and minds. For Moffat, being able to continue engage in his traditional growing practices brings not only joy but survival. “Farming is important because everyone depends on it for a daily meal, and the business itself”. When you buy from Moffado farm, you support a type of agriculture that nourishes you and the livelihood of your community.
If you are passionate about empowering your local farmers, support farmers like Moffat that base their practices in the well-being of community.
You can find Moffado Farm products for sale at Riverwalk Market Fair, from 9am-1pm, at Bridge Square in Northfield every Saturday until the end of October.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Sharing Our Roots relies on community donations to fund our work restoring land and providing immigrant, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ farmers with essential support.
